Waste is everything we use which is no longer useful and needs to be disposed of. It is defined by the type of place it comes from such as schools, shops, factories, offices, farms, building sites and our own homes. Everything we throw away is waste. We don't just see it in our rubbish bins but on the street and even floating in rivers and seas. WASTE IS A PROBLEM FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. We are producing more waste than ever before.

The simplest way to reduce the amount of waste we produce is to avoid creating it in the first place! We are runnning out of places to bury our waste and wasting finite materials. The 4 'R's provide a framework for minimising waste. They are:

      Matter cannot be created or destroyed. We can change its physical form but it can't be made to disappear. Waste can be burned - but it is still there ... as heat, gases and ash.
