The
United Nations Declaration of Human Rights states that
education is a basic right. It should be free to everyone
at least at primary school. This means that everyone should
be able to learn to read and write.
But
education is not just literacy. It provides people with
the knowledge needed to give them more choice in the type of
work they do.
It
also gives people the
skills they
need to take part fully in the wider community. When countries
help their people become educated and skilled everyone benefits. |
