Bangladesh
(Shorifa's experience)

Bangladeshi flag

People in Bangladesh love watching American and English shows, movies and advertisements. It is something different from the life that they live in Bangladesh.

They want to look cool when their cousins from London come over to Bangladesh for a short stay hoping that they will impress the 'Londoni' girls and the local people.

In my family we choose what we want to wear, personally I will wear western clothes more than Bangladeshi clothes, as long as they are modest and less revealing.

My older sister wears both types of clothes but some of them are quite revealing. Our parents don't mind what we wear.

In our culture a sign of marriage on a woman are bangles on both hands. Once you are married you should be seen wearing them, but men don't have to.

Modern women would prefer to wear a wedding ring on the left hand's ring finger as well as the traditional bangles and men would wear a wedding ring, mainly silver because muslim men are not allowed to wear gold, they believe that gold should only be worn by women.

When families from London go to visit places in Bangladesh, they tend to travel by a chauffeur driven space cruiser instead of public transport. People on the street will look in to the car, impressed and curious to see who are these people in the car.

All my cousins in Bangladesh really into sports especially cricket and football. They would go to someone else's house and get together watching the game on a 14" television, since they don't have one of their own. The children in Bangladesh are a big fan of David Beckham like the children in London.
