'A footprint means pressing down and global means world, so 'global footprint' means pressing down on the world and we don't want to press too hard' (child's definition of a Global Footprint)

What we do

Over the past two decades HEC has been involved in many projects and partnerships relating to local and global learning.

At the moment, as part of our work across London, we are engaging Local Authorities in promoting the global dimension. We are developing the Global Learning School: learning in a global conext, a framework through which schools can develop the global dimension through a practical toolkit, training, input into curriculum planning and access to a wide range of resources. It is a collaborative process of development as a global learning environment. We are also working with partners around issues of sustainability and exploring the challenges and opportunities of school linking.

Past projects have spanned a wide range of themes, including fair trade, displaced peoples, refugees, enterprise, diversity, play, democracy, participatory photo and video work and journeying.

We also work with a diverse range of local and global partners. International NGO's, including Amnesty International, CAFOD, Oxfam, Save the Children, and WWF. Museums and institutions including the British Museum, Museum of London, Museum in Docklands, Universities of East London and South Bank, and the Tower of London. Linking organisations, including BUILD (Building Understanding through International Links for Development), UKOWLA (UK One World Linking Association) and BBC World Class.

what is Global Learning? what is sustainability? what about child rights? what about climate change?

Water can be fresh but never new. All the water in the world, in the ice caps, the oceans, the clouds, in the rivers and under the ground, is about a billion years old. There’s always been the same stock of water on Earth, it just moves around the planet, changing to ice or seawater or rain.
